Recently I have been exploring different ways of visualizing various forms of historical and social science data through geographic information systems. Below is a simple prototype for an integrative map based on the Google Map API.  The map uses information from a collaborative Google spreadsheet to create a dynamic map.  Historical and contemporary information in various media can be superimposed on the generic google map service.  With the collaboration element, I can have students in my Explore Chicago class add information that will instantly appear on the map.
